Question by Craig: Best Netbook/Notebook? Laptop. Sept 2010?
I want a Laptop, it has to be a laptop because i want to take it to work & Be able to use it!
But i want a pretty Quick one, with an 10 – 12″ Screen.

Been Reading reviews and everyday i find a laptop better than the one before & better vaule for money

i was looking at this ASUS 12.1″ EEE PC 1201N SEASHELL

there around £400, But i found one for £330 on ebay, which i thought was pretty good..

What is the worlds Opinion?

I recommend getting a netbook that has each key separated into its own bracket; because they’re smaller laptops it’s recommended to get a netbook with these types of keys as they’re easier to type with instead of keys spaced together and rather small

I know some pretty good 10″ laptops, including the Toshiba NB305 (review of it here: http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/15/toshiba-mini-nb305-review/); however this has a 10″ screen. Toshiba doesn’t sell any 12″ laptops as far as I can see (maybe I’ve not looked enough on their website), however, they do sell 11.6″ laptops which are a pretty decent portable size; not too small unlike a 10″ screen in some peoples opinion. You can find them here: http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/generic/home-thin-light-mobile-laptops/ – however, the cheapest 11.6″ laptops from Toshiba do not include the keyboard I explained about (sometimes referred to as a chiclet laid keyboard; due to each key being separated in its own bracket since 11.6″ is still a portable small size computer). On that page though, they sell some 13.3″ laptops. I have a 13″ laptop and you can see the difference when I use a 15″ laptop but again, it’s still portable and a good size but there is a a bit of a difference between 11.6″ and 13″. However, the 13″ laptops are quite expensive from Toshiba and other manufacturers due to being considered a portable notebook with extensive detail towards conserving battery life, lightweight design, etc.

Just to let you know, Sony sell some 13.3″ laptops too. However, if you would prefer going for between 10″ to 11.6″ for the portability and battery life especially, then again it would be equally as good an option as the 13.3″ suggestion I made. Of course you’re going to have to look round more for good 11.6″ laptops, on retail stores – PC World, Comet, Currys, etc and on manufacturers websites themselves – Toshiba, Sony, Dell, Acer, Asus, HP, etc, to try and find ones that match your needs and compare. I recommend comparing both on the internal hardware and on the three main external components which are of course the keyboard, touchpad and screen because in order to have a smaller form factor like a 11″ screen, there are some compromises like keyboard and touchpad size, etc.
